Grantee in the News: Thomas Gill editorial on Translational Geroscience in JAGS
On July 9, 2019, the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society published an editorial by AFAR expert Thomas M. Gill, MD, highlighting the efforts AFAR has made to expand and fund the field of geroscience research.
In his editorial, Dr. Gill notes how a variety of AFAR grant programs help increase support for medical students and junior faculty while simultaneously strengthening public-private partnerships. He also explains how the upcoming TAME trials will attract researchers to geroscience. In conclusion, he highlights AFAR’s role as an administrative coordinating center, stating that “..[they are] ideally positioned to advance research and training opportunities in translational geroscience.”
Dr. Gill is a 1997 Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging scholar. He is also a Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, and Investigative Medicine, and the Humana Foundation Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Yale University.
Gill’s editorial accompanies a research article, co-authored by seven AFAR experts, in the same issue.
